INSTAR Print Workshops for Poole Museum's New Sculpture

Trish and Nick of INSTAR led 2 Ink Print Repeat workshops for 15 community members to create a Scrimshaw piece to be a part of their exciting commission for Poole Museum as part of their refurbishment

Local resident and artist Jane Bull loved sharing her own personal stories of her family’s connection with scrimshaw.

Participants loved learning a simple art technique and creating pieces that were truly beautiful, and some a new printing technique they’d not tried before. Alix loved that her favourite print actually had a mistake but became very meaningful.

The collection of pieces together made a stunning collection and all participants look forward to seeing their chosen print as part of the finished exhibit.

Thank you so much Poole Museum and Trish & Nick for this wonderful opportunity.

BCP Council's Article Published on Wednesday 23 October 2024:

We’re thrilled to have been awarded this commission for Poole Museum. Abeona is more than just a sculpture – it’s a celebration of Poole’s incredible maritime history and vibrant community. By blending traditional scrimshaw techniques with modern storytelling, we hope to create a piece that resonates deeply with residents and visitors alike.

“Working with the community is at the heart of this project, and we can’t wait to see how local ideas and creativity shape the final artwork.
— Trish Evans and Nick Humphreys from INSTAR

A shared showcase of print works created by participants during the community workshops will be part of the opening celebrations when the newly redeveloped Poole Museum opens its doors.
