A Moment to Reflect after Volunteers’ Week

A blog by Leila Alford, Community Projects Coordinator at The Power House Poole

Taking down the bunting and popping the remaining balloons in our hub caused for a sweet moment of reflection of a fantastic week of recognition, showing all we can achieve when we pull together as a community. One of the highlights was an afternoon tea celebration attended by our volunteers, trustees, staff and regular visitors, whereby we ate, drank, chatted and laughed and presented certificates to our dedicated team of volunteers and trustees. For each name mentioned, the hub burst into radiant cheers and clapping, leaving a palpable warmth in every corner. The event itself, as well as our Cornerstone Patch Volunteer Open Day last Saturday, has inspired some of the newer members of our community to consider volunteering with us, which we are thrilled about and eager to follow up.

As we reflect on last week’s Volunteers’ Week celebrations, it seems fitting to celebrate the one person who had the vision to create The Power House and gives endlessly of herself, not only to build good things but to sustain them. As well as all that greets you when you enter The Power House, a lot goes on behind the scenes, making it appear to tick along smoothly, as if by magic - and it’s thanks to our incredible Founder and Project Manager Alix! She breathes life into The Power House every day, planting seeds of good in our neighbourhood and nurturing those seeds so they grow and thrive …oh, and of course her hubbie Dave, for entering into everything with a smile on his face (and often humming a tune) from DIY around the hub to cooking bacon butties in the torrential rain.

What a duo! 👏
