Celebrating the volunteers who make The Power House possible
Volunteers Rachael and Frances at the celebration.
People came together at The Power House hub in Hamworthy today to celebrate the incredible contribution of volunteers as part of Volunteers' Week 2026.
The special event brought together volunteers, trustees, people who attend activities at The Power House, community supporters and local residents interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities with the charity.
Guests enjoyed cream teas, sandwiches and conversation while taking time to recognise the many people who help make The Power House such a welcoming and vibrant community space.

A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of certificates to volunteers who have dedicated their time, skills and energy to supporting the charity and the local community. Their contribution plays a vital role in helping The Power House deliver creative, wellbeing and community activities throughout the year.
The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of volunteering in building stronger, more connected communities. Volunteers support many areas of the charity's work, from activities at the Hub to helping maintain and grow the Cornerstone Patch community garden.
The celebration was also a chance to thank and say farewell to Bel, whose dedication and hard work have helped lead the Cornerstone Patch to become the thriving community garden it is today. Bel has played a significant role in developing the garden and creating opportunities for local people to connect through growing, creativity, learning and spending time outdoors together.

At the same time, The Power House was delighted to welcome Laura, who will be taking on some time at the Cornerstone Patch garden while also leading the charity's growing youth work programme. As The Power House continues to expand opportunities for young people in Hamworthy, Laura's role will help shape this exciting next chapter.
The event reflected everything that Volunteers' Week is about: celebrating the people who give their time to help others, recognising their impact, and inspiring more people to get involved in their local community.
Volunteers remain at the heart of The Power House, helping to create welcoming spaces where people can feel connected, creative, supported and part of something positive.
Special thanks to The Asda Foundation for helping fund our new accessible ramp, making it easier for more people to access and enjoy The Power House.
