Moor Talk: making, spinning tunes and connecting at Turlin Moor Fun Day
We had a brilliant day with our neighbours at Turlin Moor Fun Day, organised by Poole Communities Trust. Michael, Laura and Leila joined local residents and partners including The Friendly Food Club, Pavilion Dance South West and Upton Country Park for a day of creativity, conversation and community connection.
Led by Laura, young people filled our 'Talk Moor' sticker wall with positive messages about Turlin Moor, while Leila helped budding creatives design their own screen-printed greetings cards. For a musical backdrop, brought along a record player and a crate of 7" vinyl, offering residents the chance to choose a record, and for us to find out more about them, what interests them and their love of the neighbourhood.
The day gave us a chance to strengthen existing partnerships and to forge a few new ones. We talked with Francis from Poole Communities Trust about future collaborations, while local MP Neil Duncan-Jordan (having chosen his record), introduced us to Claire, the newly elected Chair of Pride in Place. Hamworthy West and Turlin Moor is set to benefit from up to £20 million of investment over the next ten years, with local people helping to shape how it is used.
With our new three-year food and financial wellbeing programme taking shape and Youth Space growing towards a youth-led arts festival in 2027, there is plenty to look forward to. Days like this remind us what can happen when local people and organisations come together, share ideas and build something for their community.
