Forage & Feast: discover the wild food on our doorstep
Join us on Saturday 3 October for a free half-day of foraging, practical food skills and a closer look at the edible plants and fungi growing all around us.
We’ll meet at Poole Rugby Club car park at 10am before heading out on a guided walk with local grower, preserver and forager Gerard Harris. Over around an hour, Gerard will introduce us to a range of seasonal wild foods, showing us what to look for, what to leave well alone, and how to forage safely and responsibly.
After the walk, we’ll head back to The Power House Community Hub on Blandford Road, where Gerard will share practical tips on identifying, picking, preparing and preserving wild foods. Along the way, we’ll also explore the ethics of foraging, some of its health and wellbeing benefits, and a few clever kitchen hacks for making use of things we might normally throw away.
There’ll be samples to try too, plus plenty of chance to ask questions and build your confidence. You might even learn how to eat a raw nettle without getting stung.
Whether you’re curious about what’s growing locally, want to feel more connected to the natural world, or simply fancy picking up some useful ideas for making the most of what’s around us, this is a relaxed and practical introduction to foraging.
The session is free to attend, but places must be booked in advance.
