Art Studio Storage Phase 1 is Complete!
A huge thank you to volunteer Dave who has given several hours of his time to create this bespoke storage solution. We were thrilled to have been awarded £3000 from BH Coastal Lottery for the set up of an Art Studio in the back room. Time was taken to rework a budget to give us all we needed: tables, chairs, storage, and boxes. Competition for charitable pots is fierce, more so since Covid and the Cost of Living Crisis.
When looking at the space, we valued the extra pair of eyes and perspective of our Treasurer Bernard who helpfully pointed out that if we went ahead with maximising storage space by putting in shelving along the long wall, then it significantly narrows the creative space. Not only making that smaller, but not accessible for those in wheelchairs or with mobility issues. So … back to the drawing board …
Thankfully, our new volunteer Dave has a furniture design and making qualification and is very creative and very skilled with DIY. Taking time to carefully think about how best to obtain the most storage capacity with an even smaller space proving to be a challenge.
But! We are very happy with the progress. We have functional use with 6 heavy duty drawers that can take a lot of weight.
Bespoke pull-down shelving is on the way, as is a new worktop that will be completely smooth, and will fold out to give a very large worksurface. Ideal for sewing or larger creative pieces.
Watch this space!
Meanwhile, let’s give Dave a huge round of applause for creating a thing of beauty! Juggling making this with his full time job and his own house refurb. We are so grateful.
