Something new for young people is coming to Hamworthy this summer holidays

Young people in Hamworthy and Poole are being invited to spend time outdoors, make new friends and help shape exciting plans for their community this summer.

The Power House Poole has launched Youth Space 2026, a new programme of free sessions for young people aged 11 to 16. There are no timetables, no pressure and no expectations, just welcoming spaces where young people can be themselves.

The programme has been designed with local young people and shaped by conversations with schools and community partners. As Youth Space grows, young people will continue to share their ideas and help decide what comes next.

Michael Armstrong, Project Manager at The Power House, said, "We know there are lots of talented, creative and caring local young people. Sometimes they just need somewhere they feel welcome and listened to. Youth Space is about giving them that space.

"We're really excited by the conversations we're having about the future. This isn't about creating something for young people, it's about creating something with them. We want them to know that their ideas matter and that they can make a real difference in their community."

Starting next Monday 27 July 2026 and throughout the summer, young people can take part in three weekly sessions.

• Mondays (1pm to 3pm), Youth Space at the Cornerstone Patch 

  Young people can enjoy spending time outdoors, listening to music, reading, getting creative or helping in the garden. There is no timetable and they are free to join in as much or as little as they would like.

• Wednesdays (10am to 12pm), Brunch and Be at The Hub on Blandford Road 

  A relaxed morning where young people can help plan and make brunch, play games and spend time together. They don't need to enjoy cooking to take part, they're welcome to simply come along and hang out.

• Thursdays (6pm to 8pm), Evenings at the Cornerstone Patch 

  Summer evenings around the fire pit with music, toasted marshmallows and good company. It's a chance to slow down, unwind and spend time with friends outdoors.

Laura Smith, Youth Coordinator at The Power House, said, "We know that not every young person feels comfortable walking into a busy youth club or joining organised activities. Youth Space is different. Young people can come as they are, whether they'd like to join in or simply have somewhere welcoming to spend time.

"For parents, we hope Youth Space offers reassurance too. Their child doesn't have to be outgoing or know anyone beforehand. They can come with friends or come on their own and know they'll receive a warm welcome."
